Sunburst Granny Square Cushion

The inspiration for this “Sunburst Granny Square Cushion” is now at the back of this cushion: a pretty, spotty Tilda fat quarter that I found in my local quilt store a long time ago. The fabric was laying on my desk as I was working on something else, when I suddenly noticed that some of my “Katia”-cotton matched the colors of the spots perfectly.

A nice pattern for a sunburst granny square was found quickly (here) and I got off to a speedy start.

But ……. I got distracted by other projects (once again) and the unfinished sunbursts found themselves sitting in a Ziploc for almost a year. It’s a good thing I have made a deal with myself thís year to finish my wips, before starting (too many …..) new things, because now that the cushion is done, I could not be happier with the result!

I had seen examples of this method done by Rachele of Cypress Textiles/Babylove Brand, one of the very, very talented crocheters and crochet designers out there if you ask me. She has a super clear tutorial on her website (link here) and I really lóved this joining method. Especially the way she has you connect your corners is quite nifty and I liked that extra trick too.

However, I’m more of a “let’s try something new” kinda person, so I went for a simple crab stitch in the same color that I joined the squares with and am very content with the way this turned out.
