Treasury Tuesday

maRRose - CCC: Treasury Tuesday SinterklaasComing Saturday is a big day for kids in The Netherlands!
It’s the day when “Sinterklaas” and his helpers – the “Pieten” – show up in our country all the way from Spain to set off the annual Sinterklaas-festivities.
Traditionally they arrive by steamboat and this year they drop anchor in the city of Gouda, a place you might know for its cheese.

Their arrival marks a period of about two weeks of high anticipation, where Sinterklaas and his Pieten occasionally stop by your house to fill your shoe with some treats. That is, when you’ve sung some Sinterklaas-songs and left a carrot and some hay for Amerigo, the beautiful white horse that Sinterklaas rides.
It all culminates on December 5th, when Sinterklaas celebrates his own birthday by giving presents to everyone here.

Apart from the gift giving and the special Sinterklaas-songs, there’s traditional Sinterklaas food, so all in all this is quite the holiday.

It seemed fitting to find Etsy treasures this week that are all Sinterklaas-themed.
Not strictly crochet related I’m afraid, since there simply were not enough crocheted Sints & Piets, but a list full of creativity all focused on this fun holiday.

My two favorites are these:

Happy “Sinterklaas”!

  1. Interesting!! Santa Claus doesn’t come to give presents until the night of the 24th of dec for us! And we call him Father Christmas or Santa.
