The “Lucy” Cushion

maRRose - CCC: The "Lucy" CushionWhile I was crocheting the “Dijon” blanket (more here), I already wondered how this beautiful stitch would look in cotton.

So…. running out of yarn when trying to finish yet another blanket, the “Tulip” one (more on that here), I grabbed my chance and gave the cotton a “Dijon-stitch” try.
And my, oh, my did I like what I saw!
maRRose - CCC: The "Lucy" CushionFirst I played with a different set of stitches (sc + dc instead of the slst + hdc), and sure enough this looked nice.
maRRose - CCC: The "Lucy" CushionHowever, it came nowhere near the original plan (slst + hdc) – it’s this particular combination that gives the texture and pretty stitch definition that I (and many of you) have come to like so much (tutorial here).

From then on, the “Lucy” cushion was all I worked on – such a joy seeing it develop!
A lot of thought, trying, and frogging was involved when it came to the border: going down in hooksize twice, changing from one color to the multi-colors and then figuring out the stitches.
maRRose - CCC: The "Lucy" CushionAll of a sudden I remembered how much I like the little bobbles on the summer shawls (here and here) and “bang”: a multi-colored bobble border was born!
Me – finally – happy!

Not sure how long this “Dijon-stitch”-love will last, but the next baby blanket is already in the making……

  1. Marianne, Lucy is Beautiful! I’m going to send the link to my friend who’s new daughter is called Lucy and she’s just learned to crochet (my friend, not baby Lucy haha). Such a beautiful project! XX

    • Ah…. thanks so much, Nerissa! Oh, what a wonderful coincidence – yes, yes, she definitely has to make her Lucy a “Lucy” cushion. Should she have any questions, she can always contact me (marianne.dekkers@casema.nl) – I’ll be happy to help. Marianne xx

      • Thank you, Sonja! Ha, now that would be something …..;)! One thing’s for sure: looking at your profile photo my Lucy most certainly can’t win in gorgeousness from your beautiful Lucy! Good luck and let me know if you run into things that I could help you with (crochet-wise)! Marianne xx

Succes! Marianne xx
