The minute I saw Tracy’s “long legged dolls” for the first time, I fell in love.
Although at that time I had way too many wips to even think about starting a new project and crochet one of these beautiful dolls, I headed over to her Etsy shop and bought the pattern immediately.
I knew the time had come to start making two of them, when my lovely and pregnant hairdresser told me she was going to have twins.
I don’t know about you, but to me my hairdresser is very important. We’re not friends in the traditional sense, but on the other hand we do spend close to an hour every 5 weeks and since we like each other, we talk this whole hour about things that go on in our lives, including personal things. Things that you would tell a friend …..
Anyway, for someone as special as Ellen my hairdresser, I wanted to make special gifts and thus these cute dolls were made. The twins being a girl, Reza, and a boy, Faas, I crocheted a girl and a boy – Tracy graciously allowing me to use the girl-pattern for the boy as well.
I fell in love all over again when they were finished, sitting on my desk, ready to have their photos taken …..
Knowing that Reza and Faas have a big brother, five year old Dorus, I wanted to make something for him too. And when my doll-twins had their photo shoot, the thought struck me to crochet a big-brother-doll for him!
I started using the same stitch count, crocheting with two strands and a bigger hook, but quickly decided that this was not going to look good.
Second try was doubling the stitches and rounds – did not work either, this big brother would have become way too BIG. Third try was adding 1/3 of the stitches and rounds and that worked really well.
So now they’re ready to be wrapped up and gifted – always kind of an exciting moment. Parting with something you’ve loved making, hoping it’s going to be received well ……
One thing’s for sure: they’re made with love!
Love,
Marianne xx
